NAOMI SIMS
Elegant looks with a signature ballerina bun
I'm always intrigued with iconic beauty and style. In honor of black history month, I've decided to feature the ever so gorgeous Naomi Sims often referred to as the first black super model. Naomi Sims was an American model, businesswoman and author. She was the first African-American model to appear on the cover of Ladies' Home Journal in 1968. Then later graced covers of Time, Cosmopolitan, McCall's, Life and many more magazines. She became an icon of the "Black is Beautiful" movement.
Before modeling, Sims was a serious student. She came to New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, and did so on a scholarship. Her beauty style and grace through these photos says it all. Classic is timeless and never goes out of style.
Sims died in 2009 after a battle with cancer. She was 61 |
