Vintage and Thrift: Sequins and THE VOICE- Whitney Houston

My tribute to the VOICE!

February 11, 2015 marks the third anniversary of Whitney Houston's tragic death. Whitney Houston is a legend who will never be forgotten. She is the "The Voice"  I remember as a little girl, I used to sing and dance to her songs with my hair brush as my microphone.

While scrolling through one of the social media sites, Someone posted this photo of Whitney Houston wearing a sequins black and white skirt and jacket. A light bulb turned on in my head.  Sequins! I remembered I had a sequins jacket and skirt in my closet. (another shop your closet moment)

I have been holding on to this blazer almost two years ago.  I adore the blazer but I just didn't have the vision on how to wear it until seeing Whitney.  Check out this look inspired by the VOICE.

Vintage and Thrift: The Color Purple

I'm still shopping my closet! This dress was gifted to me by one of my thrift sisters over a year ago.  The dress doesn't have a tag on it but I love the quality of the material and the print.  The print blew me away.   I could wear this in so many ways.  That touch of purple was what caught my eyes. This is now one of my main go to pieces in my closet.

I went crazy at Walgreens. They had all sorts of colored tights for $2.00.  Colored tights adds fun to a wardrobe.

Vintage and Thrift: Stars and T-Strap Shoes

Happy February! Love month is here in this 2015 love year.  I've been calling 2015 "the love year" because it was only 20 days into the new year and my family and I had already received four invitations to weddings. Yes, great to know my friends are in love.  Love is in the air and it's such a beautiful thing.  I can't wait to celebrate in the festivities....

Well, we've made it to February and I'm still shopping my closet. I decided to go with the gold sparkly star design dress, opaque stockings and t-strap shoes. I adore a t-strap shoes.  It's so sexy and girly at the same time.   Check out the details.

Natural Hair: Protective Style Nubian Twists

I'm on hair vacation for a couple of weeks.  Don't get me wrong, I love my natural hair but sometimes I get into the get up and go mood and don't feel like dealing with hair. I didn't go with my signature Havana Twists for hair vacation this time.  I went with Nubian Twists installed by Mina of Styles By Mina in Atlanta, GA.  Here are some photos of how I've been playing with my new protective style.

I only use Finger Comber hair to install twist in my hair.  It's very versatile, reusable and keeps moisture in your hair.

Havana Twist - My Favorite Summer Protective Style

This summer I had fun with Havana Twist. Havana Twist is the best protective style (my opinion).  I say this because they keep my hair moisturized, manageable, and its also similar to my natural hair.  I don't use Marley Hair. I prefer Finger Comber Hair. It's softer, highly textured man made hair fiber that is created to blend well with a broad range of natural hair textures. To me, it looks more natural.  I've had people ask me if all the hair was mine.  Another plus to the Finger Comber Hair is that the hair is reusable.  I've been using the same hair for a year now.  I wash the hair with shampoo and condition it as well, then let it air dry for my next styling session.  It's that simple!

What I love most about A'Kiyia's hair installation technique is that she does not start each strand braided at the root first. The hair is twisted from the root to the end, which give you a more natural look.
